In real estate, you see all kinds of things. Here is the craziest thing I have encountered in a completely unexpected way…
I often get asked what’s my craziest real estate story, and today I want to show you how a totally unexpected event unfolds. After all, you never know what can happen during a day in the life of a broker…
My story about the craziest property that I visited starts a few years back. I’m out in Saint-Polycarpe with these first time buyers, and we’re visiting all these different listings. We get to this property and the house is really beat up. But there is a huge barn in the back–and when I say huge, I mean 75 by 150.
So we visit the barn and then make our way up the staircase to the second floor, where all the hay is. It’s just a wall of hay. And then there’s like a remote control with a button. I don’t remember who pushed the button but suddenly this door of hay opens, guillotine-style, straight up. And then behind it is another door, like a cooler door as if you’re walking into like a big fridge.
We opened the door and completely enclosed in all of these hay bales is a full on grow up. Like a giant fridge, there’s cooling systems, HVAC and there’s tons of batteries everywhere to make this all work.
I could not believe what I was seeing. I had only been in real estate for a little while at that time and I was absolutely shocked. My clients were shocked. Everybody was thinking how could this even be, right under everyone’s nose. And nobody has a clue.
In real estate, we see all kinds of different and really unique things when we visit homes, but that was the craziest thing I’ve seen and I did not expect to find that.
